you've been here, where have I been?? (and my Bush rant)
I am deep in the throes of moving. I like my new place, even though it makes me sneeze and wheeze. I hope it's a transient effect of the moving dust.
Anyway, I am in internet connection limbo (I ain't got it yet at the new place), I am spending all of my days trying to figure out where to stow all my crap (a Unit may be in my future). And I actually have a PHP contract to work on. So my opportunities for flogging you -- I mean blogging you are currently limited.
Please put such time, money, and psychic energy as you have into defeating the evil, dysfunctional, and radical administration currently in power. These eight weeks may be among the most important of your lives, because if they get another four years where they don't have to act normal to get re-elected, we will see vast chunks of Utah and Alaska and elsewhere lost forever to mining instead of wilderness. We will get such a deficit that your economic life will be f---ed for decades, and finally your country will have become a giant gated community. A regimented police state under siege by a world that hates us.
The novelists I read are starting to deal with the Patriot Act in their vaious ways. The lastest was Sara Paretsky's Blacklist. The book was somewhat preachy and annoying, but she did work in a little Arab dishwasher boy who was thought to be a terrorist. So the heroine was expecting a visit from the police, and whereas in the old days she would expect to call her lawyer, she had to tell her friends - if you don't hear from me in 12 hours call my lawyer because under the Patriot Act they can hold me for a month without any calls! too scary.
