As an old guy who lived off of my lefty hook for decades, who grew up with Kareem's Sky Hook, I have to ask, why doesn't anybody under the age of 50 use the old-school hook as a go-go move?
That is a general question/issue, but in particular on the Warriors, we have Troy Murphy. A big ole long-limbed fellow without any kind of speed who keeps dutifully trying to take it to the basket and keeps getting stuffed about 2/3 the time. Today (Toronto) in the first half there was a sequence with him on his strong hand side of the basket jockeying back and forth with the dribble and eventually settling for the now standard weak little 5 foot stepback which missed.
Why not take one strong step and hook that sucker off the glass and into the hoop? The ball's too high to block, your off shoulder keeps the defender off, you get a PERFECT hoop-loving spin off your fingers with that shot, and you can get it almost any time you want.
WHY DOESN'T ANYBODY SHOOT THE HOOK!!! (arrrggg)
